 Nous
sommes nombreux dans notre région de Moselle à nous
souvenir qu’il n’y a pas si longtemps de cela, notre
terre de Lorraine fût libérée de la tyrannie
et de l’oppression.
Today we offer our homage, once aginto those man who came from
the other side of the ocean, to offer us the most wondrous gift,
LIBERTY.
“Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word over there
That the Yanks are coming,
The Yanks are coming, …"
Already in 1918 it was their fathers, as in 1944, young
brave soldiers who are today’s veterans who will come
back again next year in November 2004, to retell of their
exploits and the heavy price paid in order that we can enjoy
today’s freedoms.
They will be back to remind the younger generation, the children
in our schools, of the suffering they endured.
Assembling the energy and local goodwill, we decided to
found the Association "Moselle River 1944"
which was born in order to keep the memory alive, without
politics
or reference
to the polemics which today have tended to cloud the solid
friendship between France and the United States;
Our goal is to preserve and strengthen the memory of the sacrifices
of those soldiers, in order that the flame of remembrance will
never be extinguished.
Discover on this new internet site
- the accounts of veterans who took part in our liberation
- likewise the personal accounts of local civilians
- the accounts collected by local schoolchildren.
Long live freedom and friendship between our nations.
